The Erasmus University in Rotterdam announce that at Erasmus MC, Faculty of Erasmus University Rotteram, Dr. A. T. Van der Ploeg has been appointed extraordinary professor of Pediatrics, in particular lysosomal storage disorders, on behalf of the Prinses Beatrix Fund, and will publicly accept her appointment on Friday October 2, 2009 with an inaugural lecture entitled "Finding a cure for rare diseases, a centre of excellence for special metabolic disorders".
Prof. van der Ploeg is one of the key researchers for Pompe and was involved in the development of the enzyme replacement therapy.
